Will Jacobs Surf Team Cocoa Beach FL 1966
Cocoa Beach FL 1966 - Will Jacobs Surf Team-
I owe it all to my predecessors Tommy Weyant, Gearge Lewis (Bus 8 ) Basil(Richie Lienart, Chris Eckinburg ( who married the most beautiful girl in theworld- Lynn Todds sister) and of course Flea Bop (who let me beat him in theCape Cod paddle race)

In 1968 I saw Chris Ekinberg taking off outside the point in front of the rocks at Point Panic. I was absolutely stunned and couldn't believe how bold it was. We were all sitting next to the rocks not daring to go any deeper.
And his style was amazing. Smooth and confident. I don't think I saw anyone take off as deep as he did for another 20 years. Talk about being ahead of his time.

I did
Seaweed use to go right instead of left where Ekinberg use to take off.
He also had lots of resin and fiberglass.
Chris Ekinberg is the one that stole 10 long boards from the Tasca house one night.
Rumor has it he made short boards out of the long boards
I think Joel Breckinridge helped

Eckinberg married one Lynn who was on the Team for a very short time. She was beautiful. Most of the surf team including Chris, George and Tommy were all at the wedding
Thats right, I forgot. Chris. He married Todds sister! Todd and I were close. He is the one who sent me drugged letters from Maui in 68 and 69 . Thats why I moved!. His father and mine were very close. They had a house in OLINDA on Maui and went there every year for the winter. I still have the letter that talked about Honolua in a drugged , halucinatory state. When I went to Hawaii in 71. Todd had returned to RI. He had a nervous breakdown and had been committed a while. Remember he was there at Rainbow Bridge and was on ACID everyday for a year surfing, Honolua and Hookipa. It all caught up with him. Some 15 years later I am in Kahului at the market and see him again. He was completely fried!!!!! Lynn I believe was in the same zone. They were the original hippies when they went to maui and got involved in all the TM and other crap that was floating around in those early 70's.
Finally, Todd and I played music together. He played drums. He was the original big wave rider.

In 67, he took me to a foggy PJ light that was maxing at 6-8 feet, barely visible from shore. Of course, not a soul around. He went out. I was amazed. Later that day he took me by a break that he used to surf alone as well., espousing the virtues of the place. I was more flabbergasted. Little did I know i would have a deep afinity for the place later in life, but at the time with no chords and 14 years old, I thought he was insane. THE PLACE WAS MONOHANS!

Yes, BUS 8!. We would pick it up at my Grandmothers house and stood under the porch when it rained. I had to walk from my house in the snow with my rubber boots on that had the buckles! One day the bus had just left near the light at the high School and someone lit a cherry bomb right near George Lewis. We had to pull over at Dairy Queen! I was best friends with Robbie Lewis. Gearge was the Guru!I can remember his style, ahead of the pack at that time,65 or so. Charlie the bus driver we use to call Cro Magnon man. He was mean. I remember the reunion.
Who is surfing . Is that you Scott??? I remember the Chris E. story too.
And Mike your Cape Cod team. It seemed you wewre a traitor for a while.
